We are holistic. We focus on the whole child – not just play, not just academic learning. Research shows that the Montessori Method promotes development of the key skills needed to succeed in life – executive functions such as concentration, persistence, planning, problem solving, critical thinking, self control and memory.
We recognize a young child's potential. We believe children are little…but far from incapable. As they are ready, we introduce children to numeracy and literacy, building a great foundation for primary school. Our brain is never again as absorbent as in the first five years of life….so if your child has a mind like a sponge, fill it with good things!
Our programme is child-centered. Children explore and learn at their own pace, selecting their own activities. And as they are choosing from their own areas of interest, they learn readily.
And our programme is teacher led. As Maria Montessori said, without the river banks, the water would never make it to the sea. Our teachers act as guides to encourage children to learn at their own pace.
We don't have a Transition to School programme for 4 year olds…our whole programme from two years onwards is preparation for school, equipping children to be creative, confident and competent learners. This combined with our strong focus on numeracy and literacy helps your child to 'hit the ground running' when they transition to big school.
Our classrooms are mixed in age, allowing children to learn from each other, and to explore a variety of social roles in authentic ways. Over the course of their time with us, children are learners and teachers, leaders and followers, sometimes engaged in independent work and sometimes working with other children. Through this process, a child's confidence, social skills and ability to collaborate with others develop beautifully.
